There are three classroom band programs at Forest Park (Concert Band, Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble). Placements are made each year by the Band Director by audition. All students will audition in the spring for assignment the following year.
Concert Band is open to all ninth through twelfth grade students with experience in instrumental music. It performs in four concerts each year and participates in the District IX Concert Band Festival. Students in the Concert Band participate in several after school rehearsals in preparation for their concerts. Many of the students in Concert Band study privately.
Symphonic Band is open to students in ninth though twelfth grades with advanced experience in instrumental music. It performs in four concerts each year and participates in the District IX Concert Band Festival. Most of the students in Symphonic Band study privately.
Wind Ensemble is open to students in ninth through twelfth grades with advanced experience and skill in instrumental music. The Wind Ensemble is the representative performing ensemble in our band program. Their performance at the District IX Concert Band Festival determines our status as a Virginia Honor Band and Forest Park’s status as a Blue Ribbon School. Students in the Wind Ensemble participate in Wednesday evening rehearsals in preparation for Festival. Students in the Wind Ensemble are expected to study privately.
Additionally, students will have the opportunity to perform in small groups including, but not limited to Brass Choir, Clarinet Choir, Flute Choir, Wind Quintet, Sax Quartet and Percussion Ensemble.
